INTRODUCTION.
Why go to the bank? Let the bank come to you. The concept of doorstep banking is based on this very premise. In fact, with hectic schedules and time constraints, value of time is being increasingly felt and this is believed to be increasing the use of doorstep banking in India. And seeing the opportunities galore, banks of all hues are jumping on the bandwagon with their latest offerings.
Also, a few Indian private as well as public sector banks used to provide customers with doorstep banking but on an informal basis.
“But in the present scenario most banks have started focusing on the ‘mass affluent’ segment with a specific product and doorstep banking has become a part of the product offering. Hence, every customer who enrolls for the priority/private banking product of a bank is eligible for doorstep banking,”. The gamut of home banking today, however, goes far beyond cash withdrawal/DD request and includes other services as well ranging from courier pickups to opening a new account and even getting due date reminder alerts. The bank has developed several products to cater to this segment, like Priority Banking, Senior Privilege and Business Privilege, which are the products targeted at the mass-affluent customer segment. What is more, with the liberalisation, the market may find banks opening small collection centers in major wholesale markets to make it more convenient and cost effective. “We may also find banks carrying note-counting machines to customers and giving auto generated receipts on the spot. This service will continue to become popular among HNW segments in respect of delivery of drafts against ‘Dial-a-draft’ route or receiving cheques,”.
Thus, with the new age banks betting big on serving customers at their doorstep and more and more people getting accustomed to this facility, banking in India is certainly not going to be the same again!
